When global music sensation P!nk electrifies the stage at McDonald Jones Stadium next week, Rundle Tailoring and the City of Newcastle are gearing up to ensure she leaves with more than just the echoes of her unforgettable performance. Rundle Tailoring have spearheaded a collaborative effort with incredible local businesses to create a bespoke, custom-made jacket that will be a unique keepsake for the iconic singer. We aim to get it to P!nk through the power of the people.

The Idea
Rundle Tailoring have partnered with several local businesses to make a spectacular jacket for P!nk’s first show in Newcastle since 2009. We wanted to celebrate her iconic appearance in our hometown and what better way to do that than to collaborate with other talented local businesses to design a truly memorable souvenir for P!nk made right here in Newcastle.

The Masterpiece

Bronwyn & Andrew who are avid music lovers came up with the idea to cover P!nk in Newcastle when they bought their tickets to her show months ago. They meticulously designed every detail on the jacket and thought what better way to show P!nk what Newcastle is made of than to collaborate with other talented local businesses to creat a truly unforgettable memento.
The culmination of this collaboration is a sensational custom-made tailored jacket, meticulously crafted by Rundle Tailoring’s skilled tailors and seamstresses who had a lot of fun making it over the last two months. The design was inspired by the traditional Prince Charlie Scottish jacket which we have been making here in our Newcastle West factory for over 110 years. The modified design exudes a serious rock star edge, perfectly aligning with P!nk’s distinctive style.
The jacket, crafted from a hot pink woolen blend with metallic lapels and silver buttons, boasts custom embroidery by local and long-standing partner Phoenix Embroidery, marking the concert tour, date, and P!nk’s name on the inside. The custom lining features iconic photographs of Newcastle’s landscape, capturing the essence of the city, skillfully captured by local photographer Shannon Hartigan, a collaboration we feel privileged to part of.
The Creative Minds Behind the Jacket
Bronwyn & Andrew Rundle:
The creative process started with Bronwyn’s concept idea & design closely followed by Andrew’s expert tailoring experience to choose the cut, pattern modifications and size. Next there was consultation with our incredible seamstresses to work out the trims, buttons and finer details. Then it was time to collaborate with other local artists and professionals to really make it pop.
Both Bronwyn & Andrew appreciate the significance of this project in Newcastle’s history, drawing parallels with previous memorable moments we have been involved in with global superstars like Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney when they visited Newcastle. Rundle Tailoring celebrated these mega stars gracing our city with their presence and talent over the years in a similar fashion. When Sir Elton John visited, we made a tribute jacket, adorned with rainbow sequins for our window. It was made by the same seamstresses who made a suit for the star when he toured Australia in the 80’s and we again had a lot of fun creating the sparkly jacket. When Sir Paul McCartney came to town last year, Andrew was lucky enough to meet him and gift him a John Lennon shirt continuing our tradition of celebrating iconic performers in a uniquely Novocastrian way.

Marty Adnum:
Local creative Marty Adnum from Out of the Square Media is one of the best creative minds in Newcastle. He was such a fun and supportive collaborator to throw our ideas at. He seamlessly tied together and edited video content documenting the entire process, from conception to completion that we will be sharing on our socials in the lead up to P!nks visit and we could not have done this project without him.

Shannon Hartigan:
We feel privileged that the incredibly talented local landscape photographer Shannon Hartigan of Shannon Hartigan Images allowed us to use his stunning landscape images of iconic Newcastle sights for the lining of this jacket. We had a hard time narrowing down the images to use as his collection is so vast and every single one of them is spectacular.
If you are looking for a truly magical gift to showcase what our beautiful town has to offer, pop into Shannon’s gallery at the top of town and get them one of his beautiful photographs.

Alisha Milajew:
We reached out to our fellow wedding community friend, the fabulous local live portrait artist Lish (Alisha) from Ink & Snow to immortalise the jacket in style forever.
Lish skillfully painted the stylish concept designs to perfection even including the incredible metallic detail of the lapels, buttons and customised embroidery. She brought Bronwyn’s design to life, and we will keep these incredible artworks on display in our store forever.

Phoenix Embroidery:
We have a long working history with the team at local business Phoenix Embroidery and they always deliver a quality outcome.
When we ran the idea past manager Kristy of running the embroidery down the back, it was something she hadn’t done before but she never shys away from a challenge. We asked if they could embroider P!nk’s show date and location down the back of the jacket and P!nk’s name on the inside of the jacket to make it a truly one-of-a-kind and personalised gift, and it turned out better than we could have hoped for.
