The Australian-owned business has evolved from its humble stockman origins while retaining its early principles of crafting products as hardy as the environment they’re made for. The brand’s pioneer, Reginald Murray Williams, was a South Australian stockman and leatherworker who crafted saddles, bridles and riding boots in the early 1930s. While living and working in the Flinders Ranges on Adnyamathanha land of the Yura people, RM learnt leather tooling from Indigenous stockman Michael George Smith (also known as Dollar Mick). Together they pioneered the iconic “one-piece of leather” riding boot design, which remains R.M. Williams signature style almost 100 years later. Their footwear and leather goods grew in notoriety thanks to their high quality and endurability against the harsh conditions of the outback. Over the following 90 years, R.M. Williams has become a closet staple for country and city-dwellers alike, and their reputation for exceptional quality is now renowned on a global scale.

Williams also preserves their longstanding traditions by continuing to handcraft their distinctive boots in South Australia as they have since 1932.
