A playful food fight, a strawberry sponge cake and a couple of sore heads during O-Week at University of Newcastle kick started a lifetime of adventures and happy memories for Sam and Abbe.
The pair met in 2010 when Abbe had just moved onto campus accommodation and Sam had just returned back to college. A speed dating night had been organised at The Bar on the Hill (of which the pair weren’t actually matched), which escalated to a party back on campus and a celebratory birthday cake for one of Abbe’s friends.
Long story short, the cake was never actually eaten, with Sam instead instigating a rather messy food fight.
Fast-forward eight years, and the delightful pair said their “I dos” in front of 110 guests at Tocal Homestead in the Hunter Valley and shared their first dance to Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur.
With guests attending from across the globe, Sam and Abbe wanted their big day to be a true reflection of their relationship.
“The goal of our wedding was to show the simple yet beautiful things that we have in our life; from our wonderful friends and family, our love for each other and the spectacular area that we live,” Abbe says. “While this wasn’t so much a destination wedding for us, it was for all our family and friends as they live all over the world.”
The day was certainly filled with love and special moments shared.
For Abbe it’s hard to pick a favourite memory but a love-struck groom brings a smile to her face.
“I especially love how Sam got scolded by his best man for kissing me too much during the ceremony,” she laughs.
For Sam, it was photos with his new wife and bridal party that will remain one of his favourite memories from the day.
Sam chose his wedding suit and groomsmen’s suits from Rundle Tailoring. They look dashing in Studio Italia Icon Marine suits with Brooksfield French Cuff Cream Shirts. Sam wore a Collezione bow tie in shell and his groomsmen wore neckties in the same colour with matching pocket squares. We think Sam and his groomsmen looked spectacular on the day and Sam was happy with the service he received from Rundle Tailoring.
“The team at Rundle Tailoring were very friendly and gave great direction in moments of indecision, but also took the time to help me find what I wanted. They were very accommodating and I would recommend them to others without hesitation,” Sam says.
Rundle Tailoring Tip: keeping all the tie colours the same but changing the style of tie is a good way to differentiate the groom from the groomsmen. For example, in Sam’s wedding he wore a bow tie and his groomsmen wore neckties in the same colour.
